Sandeep Bhat Early Times Report
Jammu, July 11: Security forces in the Jammu region are intensifying operations amid reports of heightened terrorist activity, with around 40–50 Pakistani terrorists active across eight districts, official sources revealed on Friday. The majority, nearly 30 Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, are operating in Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, and Kishtwar, while 15–20 others are active in Rajouri and Poonch, posing a significant threat to regional stability. Sources confirm that over 95% of these terrorists are Pakistani nationals, operating in small, mobile groups south of the Pir Panjal range. Intelligence inputs have raised alarms about Pakistan-based terror groups planning a Border Action Team (BAT) attack on Indian Army positions along the Line of Control (LoC), prompting heightened vigilance and preemptive measures. To counter the threat, security forces have deployed multi-tier strategies, including intensified night operations, advanced anti-drone measures, and additional troop deployments in high-sensitivity areas. “We are dominating the higher reaches and have plugged infiltration routes previously exploited by terrorists,”, sources said. Ground-level intelligence is guiding troop movements, with a focus on tracking and neutralizing terrorist groups in districts like Kishtwar, Basantgarh, Rajouri, and Poonch. Night surveillance has been bolstered with modern equipment, including night vision devices, to restrict terrorist movements in the hilly terrain. “The terrorists are under constant pressure and finding it difficult to regroup or move freely," the source added. Security forces remain on high alert to foil any cross-border BAT attacks, with troops maintaining a strong presence along the LoC”, sources said. Recent encounters, including one in Kishtwar’s Chatroo area, demonstrate the effectiveness of these measures, with terrorists resorting to desperate tactics like grenade attacks when cornered. Over the past three years, the Jammu region has witnessed numerous attacks and operations, resulting in casualties among security forces, but sources maintain that no credible evidence points to Pakistani regulars operating alongside these terrorist groups. |
