Kakryal, July 12: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), in collaboration with the Jammu Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society (JOGS) and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, proudly hosted JANAN 2025 – The Operative Obstetrics Congress from July 12–13, 2025, at the Sanjeevani Auditorium, SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital Complex, Kakryal. This two-day national congress was dedicated to advancing operative obstetric techniques and promoting excellence in women’s healthcare. The event brought together over 150 delegates from across the country, including leading gynecologists, healthcare professionals, senior faculty members, and postgraduate students. The congress was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS (Retd.), Hon’ble Member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), along with the Guest of Honour Shri Anshul Garg, IAS, CEO, SMVDSB, and Special Guest Shri Alok Kumar Maurya, IFS, Additional CEO, SMVDSB. The dignitaries lauded SMVDIME’s remarkable progress as a growing centre of excellence, commending its commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centric care and high-quality academic training in the region. A highlight of Dr. Ashok Bhan’s address was his strong emphasis on the urgent need to reduce the urban–rural female health divide. He underscored the importance of uplifting rural maternal health, ensuring equitable access to safe deliveries, and empowering women through robust, community-centered healthcare systems. His visionary remarks inspired the audience to work collectively towards achieving inclusive and accessible maternal healthcare across all regions. A key highlight of JANAN 2025 was the first-of-its-kind cadaveric workshop held in the Jammu region, offering a rare and valuable hands-on opportunity for participants to enhance their anatomical knowledge and surgical expertise under the mentorship of renowned experts. The scientific programme was robust and diverse, featuring: • Live workshops on life-saving obstetric interventions during catastrophic childbirth • Training in advanced suturing techniques • Expert lectures on high-risk pregnancies, thromboprophylaxis in pregnancy, the role of hypoglycaemic agents in infertility, and vaccination protocols for women and adolescent girls • Interactive panel discussions led by national experts, offering practical insights and evidence-based practices The conference was awarded 12 ICOG credit points and 8 JKMC credit points, underlining its academic rigor and professional value. The grand success of JANAN 2025 was driven by the visionary leadership of Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Patron and Executive Director, SMVDIME, along with the committed efforts of Dr. R.C. Sharma, Organising Chairperson; Dr. Arun Arora, Scientific Chairperson; and Dr. Manjusha Bajaj, Organising Secretary. Their collective dedication transformed the congress into a landmark event in the field of operative obstetrics.
