Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 12: Police today booked an individual in Sopore sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly extorting money from a local resident by falsely claiming close ties with the police and promising help in a pending case.
The accused was identified as Shahzad Ahmad Dar, a resident of Dangerpora Sopore.
Police said the accused reportedly threatened the victim and took Rs 95,000 on false assurances of resolving a police-related issue.
“An FIR under relevant provisions of law has been registered at police station Sopore and investigation is in progress,” police said, adding the accused has been arrested.
The police advised the public not to fall prey to such elements.
“Anyone facing threats or extortion in the name of police is urged to report the matter at the nearest police station or district police office Sopore,” police said.
Police said that its action will always remain within the bounds of law, and any individual indulging in such unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences.
