Jammu, July 12: In a major escalation of its campaign against terrorism, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, within 24 hours, have attached properties worth over Rs 7 crore belonging to five terrorists in Ganderbal, Sopore, and Bandipora districts. Among them are three operatives based in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The seizures include agricultural land, residential property, and frozen bank accounts identified as proceeds of terrorism. The actions, carried out under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other laws, reflect the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and its support systems. Officials have reiterated their commitment to dismantling terror networks and urged citizens to report any suspicious. The actions were taken under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other relevant laws, as part of the police's ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory. In one of the most substantial operations, Ganderbal Police on Saturday attached immovable assets valued at Rs 3.2 crore belonging to three terrorists currently operating from PoJK. The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 48/2009, registered under Section 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Kheerbawani. The terrorists whose properties were seized include Farooq Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Ahad Rather, resident of Kurag, Ganderbal, Noor Mohammad Parray, son of Abdul Ahad Parray, resident of Hatbura, Ganderbal, and Mohammad Maqbool Sofi, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi, resident of Khurhama, Ganderbal. In total, nine kanals and one-and-a-half marlas of land were attached following due legal procedure, in compliance with orders issued by the Court of the Additional Sessions Judge (Special Judge designated under the NIA Act). Police on Friday froze bank credits amounting to Rs 18,93,426, which have been identified as proceeds of terrorism. The financial assets were attached in connection with FIR No. 105/2024 registered at Police Station Sopore. The case is being investigated under Sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 38, 39, and 40 of the UAPA and Section 7/25 of the Arms Act. The attachment was carried out with prior approval from the competent authority under the UA(P) Act. Officials described this as a vital move in disrupting terror financing networks and logistical support systems aiding militant organisations and their affiliates in the Valley. Meanwhile, Bandipora Police attached immovable property worth over Rs 3.59 crore belonging to Hashir Rafiq Parray, son of Mohammad Rafiq Parray, a resident of Patushay, Bandipora. The action relates to FIR No. 168/2022, registered at Police Station Bandipora under Sections 18, 20, 23, 38, and 39 of the UAPA, Section 4(B) of the Explosive Substances Act, and Sections 2/3 of the E&IMCO Act. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, affirming their resolve to dismantle networks that threaten the sovereignty and stability of the Union Territory. Officials stated that such decisive actions will serve as a deterrent and ensure accountability for those aiding terror operations. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unlawful activity to law enforcement agencies to help maintain peace and security in the region. |
