Chandigarh, July 12: The Postgraduate Department of English at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women successfully conducted a 10-day online Certificate Course in English Literature, offering a deep and dynamic exploration of literary history, theory, and contemporary cultural discourse. With 38 participants, the 30-hour program was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of English literature- spanning from the Elizabethan era to modern and postmodern contexts. The course was enriched by sessions from resource persons: Ms. Anita, Ms. Karishma Chauhan, Ms. Aprajita, and Ms. Shruti Sharma. Participants were engaged with a wide array of topics, including the transformation of English language, Partition Literature through the lenses of trauma and memory studies, and an extensive survey of literary criticism from classical to post-humanist paradigms. Additional focus areas included cultural studies, new media, digital communication, the evolution of Indian media, misinformation, and citizen journalism. The inclusion of graphic novels and alternative literary forms further expanded the course’s interdisciplinary appeal. The course emphasised interactive and participatory learning. Through research-based exercises and academic or creative writing tasks, participants actively contributed to discussions and collaborative activities. Commending the initiative, Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma said that the course not only enhanced the literary acumen of participants but also fostered critical and creative thinking essential in today’s rapidly evolving intellectual landscape. |
