Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 30: Security forces achieved a major breakthrough in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday with the elimination of Bagu Khan, widely known as the ‘human GPS’, in an encounter in the Gurez sector. Two terrorists were neutralized during the operation, with Bagu Khan identified as one of them. The encounter occurred as the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Nowshera Naar area.
Bagu Khan, also called Samundar Chacha, had been a high-priority target for Indian security agencies for decades. Since 1995, he was involved in over 100 infiltration attempts across the Gurez sector, many of which were successful due to his unparalleled knowledge of the region’s challenging terrain, secret trails, and operational intricacies. His ability to navigate the difficult landscape earned him the moniker ‘human GPS’ and made him an indispensable asset for terrorist groups.
Primarily affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, Bagu Khan also assisted multiple other terrorist organizations, providing strategic guidance and logistical support for infiltration operations. Over the years, he played a key role in facilitating cross-border movements, supplying arms, and coordinating with local militants, making him one of the most experienced and dangerous operatives in the region.
Security officials say Bagu Khan’s death represents a significant blow to terrorist networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir. His operational expertise, local knowledge, and long-standing involvement in orchestrating infiltrations had made him a critical figure in sustaining terror activities. Analysts believe that eliminating such a high-value target will disrupt planning and operational coordination for several militant groups in the Gurez and adjoining sectors.
The encounter underscores the continuing vigilance and operational capability of security forces in the region, particularly in border areas prone to infiltration attempts. Officials highlighted that intelligence inputs, combined with coordinated ground operations, were key to locating and neutralizing the terrorist before he could execute another attack or assist in cross-border militancy.
Residents of the Gurez sector have expressed relief at the news of Bagu Khan’s elimination, noting that his activities had long posed a security threat to border communities. Security forces have reiterated their commitment to preventing infiltration attempts and ensuring the safety of civilians in sensitive border areas.
With his elimination, security agencies have dealt a serious setback to terrorist infrastructure in northern Jammu and Kashmir, sending a strong message that high-value operatives will not be allowed to operate with impunity.
