New Bongaigaon Workshop of NFR achieves Multiple Milestones during August, 2025 | | | Early Times Report MALIGAON, Sept 1: The Carriage & Wagon Workshop at New Bongaigaon under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has continued to set new benchmarks in performance and innovation during the month of August 2025. In line with the directives of the Railway Board, the workshop successfully carried out the conversion of 10 BRN wagons from fixed-head type to foldable-head type for the first time. This significant initiative will enhance the availability of high-capacity flat wagons, which play a vital role in transporting heavy and over-dimensional consignments as well as meeting the logistical requirements of defence forces. In wagon maintenance, the workshop achieved a record outturn of 49 BOXN variant wagons in a single month, backed by innovative in-house modifications such as blocking and reducing door heights. The cumulative outturn of 149 wagons during the month marks a substantial leap when compared to the average monthly outturn of just 12 BOXN wagons in the last financial year. This milestone will significantly contribute towards enhancing freight wagon availability, thereby supporting the growing transportation needs of Indian Railways. Further, the workshop carried out its first-ever overhauling of Escort make Bogie Mounted Brake System (BMBS) brake cylinders-a task never before attempted at New Bongaigaon. This new capability will enable smoother maintenance and faster turnaround of BMBS-equipped wagons, underlining the workshop's technical readiness to handle modern freight stock. Additionally, one ICF coach (No. 075210) was successfully converted into an Accident Relief Train (Re-railing & Equipment Van), further strengthening disaster management preparedness in the region. In line with IR's thrust on efficiency and sustainability the workshop ensured 100% compliance of new designs and modifications during POH. The workshop also restored a DEMU rake received from Siliguri in extremely poor condition, with defective EP brake systems and corroded pipelines, into a fully reliable and service-ready rake. Through meticulous overhauling and proactive replacement of even mildly corroded components, the team ensured that the rake was revived to the highest standards of safety and reliability. It also contributed significantly by disposing of over 152 MT of ferrous scrap and about 0.5 MT of non-ferrous scrap during August. These achievements showcase the dedication and technical excellence of New Bongaigaon Workshop, reinforcing NFR's commitment to efficiency, safety, and service improvement for the benefit of both freight and passenger operations. |
