Sanjay Pandita Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 1: Flash floods have caused extensive damage to the border grid, including fencing and outposts, along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. Security forces remain on heightened alert to prevent any attempt by terrorists to exploit the situation and infiltrate into Indian territory. Even as government machinery is engaged in large-scale rescue and relief operations to cope with the unprecedented floods, authorities have reiterated that border security remains a top priority. On Sunday, Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chawdhary reviewed the security situation along the flood-affected IB in the Jammu region. According to a BSF spokesperson, the DG inspected inundated areas in Samba, assessed the extent of damage, supervised restoration efforts, and reviewed the prevailing security scenario. He also interacted with Sector and Battalion Commanders, stressing the need for effective area domination and operational preparedness. Prior to this, Additional Director General (ADG) BSF Western Command Satish S. Khandare, along with Inspector General BSF Jammu Frontier, visited Akhnoor and RS Pura on August 29 and 30. They assessed flood damage, supervised restoration efforts, and briefed commanders on ensuring strict vigil along the border. On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, SSP Kathua Shobhit Saxena, and other senior officers, visited forward border areas in Kathua to review security in the wake of the floods. He was briefed by BSF officers about the loss of property along the IB and personally inspected the damage. The DGP also interacted with BSF personnel engaged in relief and rescue operations. Later, Prabhat visited the flood-damaged Sahar Khad bridge and the Lakhanpur–Madhopur bridge on NH-44, reviewing the traffic situation on the Punjab border and discussing restoration work with NHAI officials. He subsequently chaired a joint meeting with senior officers of the BSF, CRPF, and J&K Police, underlining the importance of maintaining strict vigil in sensitive border areas. |
