9/10/2025 7:15:30 PM

early times report

Jammu, Sept 10: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Provincial President for Jammu, Ratan Lal Gupta, has urged the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, to conduct a thorough visit of Jammu and Kashmir to assess the ground realities and the severe impact of recent floods on the local population. Gupta emphasized the need for a comprehensive rehabilitation package to address the extensive damage and ongoing suffering in the region.
Gupta made these remarks while interacting with various delegations of flood victims and a Joining function in which Shri Rakesh Gupta R/o Rehari Colony Jammu Ward No 24 a social activist Joined National Conference at the party's Provincial Headquarters, Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. The visiting delegations shared their concerns and hardships, and Gupta assured them that the National Conference would raise these critical issues with the concerned departments to ensure prompt resolution.
Echoing the sentiments of the flood-affected families, Gupta expressed deep concern over the unprecedented scale of destruction, including the tragic loss of lives and widespread damage to property, both public and private. He highlighted that the situation across the ten districts of Jammu remains dire, with no signs of normalcy.
Schools and colleges are in ruins, while hospitals and healthcare facilities are in deplorable conditions. The region's infrastructure, including roads and bridges, has been severely impacted, with many areas either submerged or suffering from landslides and erosion.
"The magnitude of the devastation is staggering. Major bridges and culverts have been washed away, and livestock has been either lost or perished. With continuous rainfall, the situation continues to deteriorate," Gupta stated. "A thorough review of the situation is urgently needed, and the people of Jammu deserve an open-hearted, comprehensive package from the Hon'ble Prime Minister to help them recover."
In his address, Gupta also called for immediate relief measures, urging the central government to fully support the efforts of the Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir government. He suggested that the affected families, particularly those in the worst-hit areas, be provided with free rations, including sugar and wheat flour, for the next three months.
Gupta further advocated for a comprehensive flood mitigation plan tailored to the unique needs of Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at preventing such devastating floods in the future. He expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of both the UT and central governments, the region would be able to overcome this crisis.
"National Conference is deeply committed to alleviating the suffering of the people of Jammu, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed," Gupta assured.
Among those who were present on this occasion : Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu, Vijay Lochan Chairman SC Cell, Rakesh Singh Raka, Dilshad Malik Vice Presidents Central Zone, S. Gurnam Singh and others.
