Jammu, Sept 10: n a heartfelt effort to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, Psychological Counseling Cell of Govt. College of Education Jammu organized a special seminar on World Suicide Prevention Day observed annually on September 10. The programme was organized under the guidance of Principal of the College Dr. Jyoti Parihar. She applauded the initiative and highlighted the college's ongoing efforts to provide counseling services and mental health resources for students. She said that education is not just about academics. It is also about building resilience, empathy, and a strong support system. Dr. Ambica Kumari, HOD Department of Psychology and Convenor Psychological counseling cell was the Resource Person. She emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs and building a supportive community. Mental health should be a priority, not a taboo. Together, a safe space can be created where everyone feels heard and supported. she said, Your life matters. You are not alone. If you're ever feeling overwhelmed, please know that there are people who care about you, who want to help, and who are ready to listen—whether it’s a friend, a teacher, or a professional counselor. We must also remember that suicide prevention is not a one-day event. It is an ongoing effort that involves awareness, education, empathy, and action.’’ The seminar, held at the college auditorium, featured expert talk, student testimonials, and interactive sessions aimed at educating the participants about the importance of early intervention, emotional support, and destigmatizing mental health issues. The event also included a pledge ceremony where participants committed to being mental health allies. Faculty members Dr. Rajinder Kour, Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Dr. Sushma Bala, Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, Prof. Roopa Kumari, Prof. Kiran Thappa and Dr. Sonam Gandotra attended the Seminar.
