Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up preparations for the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Jammu and Kashmir, signalling an early start to its organisational and political outreach in urban areas of the Union Territory.
The move comes amid indications that the Omar Abdullah-led government has initiated the formal process for conducting the elections. The government has already constituted a committee for the selection of the State Election Commission, a key step towards holding the ULB polls.
Against this backdrop, the BJP has begun internal consultations, constituency-level assessments and feedback mechanisms to strengthen its presence in municipal wards and urban centres.
Party sources said that two days ago the BJP convened a meeting of its Urban Local Bodies Cell, during which leaders discussed strategies to kick-start preparations for the elections.

eaders have reportedly directed district and mandal units to identify key local issues, mobilise grassroots workers and enhance coordination at the booth level.
The party is also focusing on highlighting its governance record, development initiatives and civic infrastructure projects undertaken in urban areas.
Emphasis is being laid on outreach to youth, women and resident welfare associations to widen public engagement ahead of the polls.
The BJP leadership is expected to hold a series of organisational meetings and programmes in the coming weeks to fine-tune its election strategy, including groundwork for candidate selection and campaign planning, once the election schedule is announced.
Political activity has gained momentum across Jammu and Kashmir, with parties gearing up for the Urban Local Bodies elections, which are seen as crucial for strengthening grassroots democracy and improving urban governance in the Union Territory.
