Crackdown on narcotics: Flying squad nabs drug peddler in Katra

REASI, Feb 3: In a significant action against drug trafficking, District Police Reasi apprehended one individual with contraband substance during routine naka checking at Nangal, Katra.
On routine checking duty, the Flying Squad of District Police Reasi had laid a naka at Nangal, Katra. At about 1840 hrs, a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BH-2524, coming from Jammu towards Katra, on noticing the naka, suddenly made a U-turn and attempted to flee from the spot. However, the alert naka party acted swiftly and successfully intercepted the vehicle.
During questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Balvinder Kumar S/O Dev Raj R/O Ghagwal, Samba. On thorough checking of the vehicle and personal search of the accused, three small polypacks containing heroin-like substance were recovered from the left pocket of his blue jeans. The recovered contraband was weighed and found to be 4.750 grams.
Upon enquiry regarding the possession of the contraband substance, the accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 45/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway.
The whole operation was carried out by SHO P/S Katra Insp. Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh-JKPS reiterated that District Police Reasi eradicate the menace of drugs from society and appeals to the public to cooperate with the police by sharing any information related to drug trafficking in their area.
