Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 3: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch J&K has booked two individuals for allegedly manipulating the medical admission process at SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, by producing fake certificates under reserved categories. The case, registered at the Police Station EOW Srinagar, has exposed serious loopholes in professional admissions and raised concerns over malpractice in the system. Investigators said the accused, a resident of Ajas in Bandipora, managed to secure admission to the MBBS course in 2023 by presenting forged “Person with Disability” (PWD) and “Economically Weaker Section” (EWS) certificates, despite not being eligible. Preliminary verification revealed that the beneficiary, in connivance with another individual from Asham, Sumbal, Bandipora, procured a fake disability certificate and used it to gain selection. Officials stated that the acts committed by the duo prima facie constitute offences punishable under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. A formal case has now been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the malpractice and identify any other possible involvement. The revelation has sparked concern over the integrity of the admission process, with authorities vowing to tighten scrutiny to prevent such fraudulent practices in the future. |
