Jammu: 2nd National Lok Adalat settles 576 cases

JAMMU, May 9: The 2nd National Lok Adalat for the year 2026 was conducted today in District Court Complex, Jammu, under the guidance of Chairman DLSA/Principal District & Sessions Judge R. N. Watal and overall supervision of Sub-Judge/ Secretary DLSA Maleeka Sharma.
Chairman R. N. Watal inaugurated the National Lok Adalat. He highlighted the importance of Lok Adalat in resolving long-pending disputes through mutually acceptable settlements. He emphasized the benefits of Lok Adalat, including speedy justice, reduced litigation costs and preservation of relationships, making it an attractive option for litigants seeking efficient dispute resolution.
A large number of litigants turned up to participate in the Lok Adalat, availing the opportunity to settle their disputes amicably. A wide range of cases, including civil disputes, bank recovery, compoundable criminal cases, MACT claims, matrimonial issues, revenue cases and others, were taken up for consideration and settlement. In all 986 cases of different nature were taken up, out of which 576 cases were settled. The total Amount recovered stood at Rs. 107547711/-.
DLSA were constituted to hear the cases. Secretary DLSA Maleeka Sharma played an important role in coordinating arrangements, ensuring the smooth conduct of proceedings across all designated venues.
National Lok Adalat witnessed the successful resolution of numerous disputes, underscoring its effectiveness in promoting speedy justice and alleviating the burden on the judicial system.
Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Jammu also settled several Cases.
An amount of Rs. 85,00,000/- was awarded in favour of Mohammad Jamil (claimant) after settlement. The amount was paid as compensation by Iffco Tokio Gen Insurance Co.
An amount of Rs. 25,00,000/- was awarded in favour of Geeta Devi (claimant) after settlement. The amount was paid as compensation by HDFC ergo.
An amount of Rs. 20,00,000/- was awarded in favour of Sardara Begum (claimant) after settlement. The amount was paid as compensation by National India Assurance Company.
