NIA court sentences Yasin Malik for life

Agencies New Delhi, May 25: JKLF chief Yasin Malik, one of the first terrorists of Jammu and Kashmir, was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 10 lakh (rpt) Rs 10 lakh by an NIA court here. Malik, who is known to have killed four IAF personnel in a terror attack in January 1990, was convicted on May 19 after he pleaded guilty to all the charges in connection to a 2017 case related to terrorism and secessionist activities. Amicus appointed by court to assist Malik requested the court to take lenient view against the JKLF leader and requested for life imprisonment instead of death penalty. Malik said he will retire from politics if intelligence agencies can give proof of his involvement in terror activities. Malik submitted that he has followed the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and has followed the principles of non-violence in Kashmir politics ever since. Mobile internet suspended in Kashmir

Early Times Report Srinagar, May 25: Mobile internet was suspended in Kashmir as a precautionary measure after a court awarded life imprisonment to separatist leader Yasin Malik in a terror funding case on Wednesday, officials said. They said the mobile internet has been suspended across all network service providers in the Valley. However, the officials said, internet services were working on fixed-line, including fiber and broadband. Early Times Report Srinagar, May 25: A 35-year-old woman was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district today. A 10-year-old, the woman’s nephew, was also injured in the attack. “At about 8 pm, terrorists fired upon a woman, identified as Amreen, near her residence at Hushroo in the Chadoora area of the district,” an official said.
