| 3 Lashkar militants, civilian porter killed as Army foils infiltration bid in J&K’s Kupwara | | | |

Srinagar, May 26: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants and a civilian porter working with the Army were on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
“Army foiled an infiltration attempt in forward areas of Keran sector on May 26, 2022, culminating in killing of three terrorists and recovery of large quantity of war like stores,” a defence spokesman said. He said the operation was launched based on joint intelligence from several agencies, including police.
“Several search parties were formed, who conducted vigorous searches and established multiple ambushes. The contact with terrorists was established at 4.45 am on May 26 in the forward areas close to the Line of control (LoC), leading to heavy exchange of fire,” he said.
The spokesman said one civilian also lost his life in the fire fight.
“Search of the area yielded dead bodies of three terrorists, three AK rifles, one pistol, six grenades and large quantity of ammunition and stores related to Improvised Explosive Devices,” he added.

Srinagar, May 26: Jammu and Kashmir Police has identified the two local militants who were allegedly involved in the killing of a policeman and wounding his nine-year-old daughter in Srinagar. Selection grade Constable Saifullah Qadri was killed while his nine-year-old daughter was injured when militants fired at them outside their house in Soura on the outskirts of Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.
Qadri was on leave at the time of the attack.
Police said the attack was carried out by the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s shadow group, The Resistance Front.

Jammu, May 26: The Army on Thursday launched a cordon and search operation in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said the soldiers were assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir police.

Srinagar, May 26: At least nine people died and one injured after their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Zojila pass on Thursday.
The car had skidded off the road and plunged into a 500-600 feet deep gorge at Chini Nallah Mandir More on the Srinagar-Ladakh highway. Police said that ill-fated vehicle was going from Kargil to Sonamarg. Nine persons, including the driver of the vehicle, died while an injured person has been shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Srinagar for treatment, the police added.
