'Congress in a better position to retain its seats in JK'

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 11: The State Congress leadership believes that the party is still strong in the State and unlike other parts of the India, it's in a much better position to not only retain its seats but can also strongly emerge as the single largest party.
The party thinking was reflected in the statement of Congress Cabinet Minister Sham Lal Sharma who said there is no way for Congress to be in a mood of dejection and upsets are part of democracy. The state unit had also analyzed the results and views that party had lost in Chattisgarh and Rajasthan because of its own faults rather than the BJP factor.
"The results of these two states shows that party faulted in selecting candidates and also not giving control of the party to leaders who are grounded and in touch with the masses and this is not the case in the State," said a senior Congress leader. The party leader said that the elections in the State are to be held after Parliamentary elections and even if party suffers reverses but is able to retain most of its seats and with new Government in Centre the focus would shift on its policies and this would be time for the party to consolidate itself.
"The about six month time after Parliamentary elections would be an opportunity for us to make amends and then shift the gaze to the Central Government if the Congress is not there and will try to expose its tall claims," said a senior Congress Minister. The party leadership holds the view that Congress can surely retain its tally and in many parts of the state where BJP doesn't have much presence it is the only sole party with credibility which has worked in the State.
"Azad had done credible work and people of the State especially in Jammu region still feel that it made a mistake by voting for BJP in Jammu region. We will make the people realize not to commit the same mistake again as Congress represents Jammu region well and it will be in our interests as in Kashmir it would be division of votes among NC and PDP," said a Congress Minister.
