ET Report
SRINAGAR, May 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government has prepared another list of the tainted bureaucrats with the dispensation mulling to go for another operation clean up in the state administration.
Sources privy to this development told Early Times that during the past week, the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had issued directions to the General Administration to speed up its efforts in preparing the list of babus against whom graft charges have been registered in the past and no action was taken by the previous regime. The order was also issued to put the babus in categories about their actions which have proven to be no less than hurdles in ensuring transparent working mechanism in the state.
Top sources in the government revealed further that the list of the corrupt officials has been submitted before the chief minister's office with the action expected to be taken in very near future.
Reports inform that the officials from housing and Urban development, education, Revenue and Finance besides others have topped in the list which has been prepared by the GAD on the directions of the chief minister.
Earlier, the government made it clear that there will be absolutely no space being accorded to the officials with the tainted past in their kitty.
Pertinently, on March 15 this year- fortnight after assuming power in the State, Mufti Sayeed-led PDP-BJP government ordered a major overhaul in police and civil administration.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at that time chaired the cabinet meeting at Civil Secretariat, Jammu and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Dr Nirmal Singh and other cabinet ministers.
Merely 60 days after assuming office, the JK government transferred 170 secretaries, under secretaries, 72 KAS and 21 IAS officers in the state administration.
The General Administrative Department (GAD) has till date issued 25 different transfer orders of the officers who were accorded the key posts during the previous regime in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, sources on Monday revealed that similar kind of action is being taken here by the state dispensation as after Darbar move this month, the GAD was working on tenterhooks to comply with the orders issued by the chief minister of the state.
Reports informed that there are several babus who were accorded key positions in the state administration only because they were darlings to some of the ministers of the previous coalition. " It is even bizarre that most of the officers were not even of the KAS grade but they were given the positions of director or Chairman in various departments. This government from the day one has been eyeing on such persons to show them door and have the transfers based purely on merit," one of the officials said.
He added that though political pressure is tried be created by some officials who are likely to face music but the present dispensation has made up its mind not to tolerate the mistake of past at any cost.
