Jammu Journalist receives prestigious honour

Jammu, Apr 5: Young journalist, Yogesh Sagotra, son of soil brought laurel to state by receiving '11th Young Outstanding Journalist Honour' at a felicitation programme organized at the Chandigarh Press Club on April 3.
Yogesh Sagotra is working with daily Greater Kashmir newspaper received the prestigious '11th Simmi Marwaha Young Outstanding Journalist Honour' in English journalism for his contribution the filed. This year four young journalists were felicitated by the trust in Punjabi, Hindi and English language category respectively. Yogesh Sagotra was first in state to received awarded for his outstanding contribution towards youth and women related issues through writing in addition to his day to day reporting assignments. His work on post riot series on 'Kishtwar Riots-2013 ', Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board's 'Fast Track Recruitment' series and General V K Singh's controversial 'Army Payoff Row' series published in Greater Kashmir was also appreciated by the jury members. Besides, Yogesh Sagotra, Neel Bhalinder Singh from Chandigarh working in Daily Ajit was honored for his contribution in Punjabi language journalism, Rajesh Kashyap from Rohtak, Haryana for Hindi language and Zirakpur resident Damandeep Kaur, the topper of Punjab University Mass Communications (Correspondence) were the given the honour for year 2014. Simmi Marwaha was a journalist who died very young in March 2003 in a road accident at Chandigarh. Her family and well wishers together started the Simmi Marwaha Memorial Charitable Trust, which for last one decade felicitates young journalists every year. Mother of Simmi Marwah and Managing Trustee Rajinder Rosy said, "My daughter, who was not only a journalist but also used to write poems, was active in NCC, and was an upright citizen and honest person, died very young and all her potentials were crushed. Through this felicitation each year, the Trust wants to acknowledge and promote other young journalists."
