Damaged Bhunzwah road irks people, threaten poll boycott

Jammu, Apr 5: The people of Bhunzwah are angry over the dilapidated road and have threatened poll boycott in case the government failed to take appropriate measures. They have shown anger against the Roads & Building department and PMGSY department for their failure in maintaining the 30 KM road up to the village causing lot of inconvenience to the people of the area having population of over 20000.
While talking to Early Times the people informed that the condition of the road is worst from Doonadi to Noor with various vulnerable spots at Gulodi,Nagni, Pashala, Sharak, Kewa, Noorand at several other places threatening human lives.
They said that the road is under construction since last five years and added that the government has claim to spent several crores of rupees on this road, but nothing has been done on ground to improve the condition of the road so that it becomes traffic worthy.
"Due to heavy snow and rainfall, the road has been prone to threat and vulnerable to accidents" said one local Firdous Ahmed. He said that the condition of the road surface is so poor that it took three to four hours for a vehicle to cover the distance of 30 KM. Another village said that the transporters were charging extra fair from the passengers. "Despite repeated requests to the government regarding SRTC bus service for the area, but nothing was done so far and public demands goes into deaf ears of the government as well as the local politicians" said Muddassir Ahmed. Muddassir said that many time transporters refuse to travel to Bhunzwah fearing damage to their vehicles.
"Even vehicles like Tata Sumos or Boloros feel lot of inconvenience while travel on this road--- people mostly prefers to travel by foot rather than to travel on this road:" said Ajaiz Keen. Ajaiz said that the people living in the area are poor and faces lot of inconvenience due to non availability of proper road. He said that patients, students and elderly people are the worst suffers on account of poor roads. He said that the condition of road from Noor to Benoon is very poor.
The people living in the area demanded immediate attention of the government and concern department and threaten that in case the condition of the roads did not improve, the people will not come out to vote schedule to be held on 17th of this month.
It is pertinent to mention that Bhunzwah area of Kishtwar District falls in Udhampur-Doda-Kathua parliamentary seat and is considered as strong vote bank of Congress party.
