Night temp dips to minus 5 deg in Kargil, day warmer in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 10: Night temperature dropped further in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region with Kargil recording minus 5 degrees Celsius while it was minus 3.3 degrees in Leh. Minimum temperature at Gulmarg and Pahalgam also remained sub zero. However, bright sunshine greeted people in the valley though sky was also partly cloudy. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that weather will be mainly dry over the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. However, from April 12 onwards there could be scattered rain or thundershowers, he said. People in border town of Kargil on the national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the country, continued to freeze as the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 5 degrees against yesterdays minus 4.8 degrees. At Leh there was two degrees drop in the minimum temperature. Against yesterdays minus 1 degree, it was minus 3.3 degrees, Met spokesperson said. He said the sky will remain mainly clear tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 13 degrees and minus 2 degrees respectively. Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, the night temperature was minus 2 degrees, two notch below normal. At Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine, was second coldest with minus 1.8 degrees, four degrees below normal. The summer capital, Srinagar, also recorded drop in the night temperature. Against yesterdays 6.2 degrees, it was 4.6 degrees, 2.4 notches below normal. However, despite partly cloudy weather, there was bright sunshine in the city, providing much needed relief to people, who witnessed heavy snowfall during the month of March after 1993. Met spokesperson said the maximum temperature in the city yesterday was 19.5 degrees, a notch above normal. He said here would be mainly clear sky tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be round 19 degrees and 4 degrees respectively. At Qazigund the minimum temperature was 3 degrees, three degrees below normal, Kokernag 3.9 degrees, a notch below normal and Kupwara 2.2 degrees, three notches below normal, he said. |
