Registered establishments to check sale of fake products in Valley | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 10 : To keep a close watch on unscrupulous traders selling fake products in the name of Kashmir art, all handicraft dealers in the Kashmir valley have been asked to register their business establishments. Inspection teams have also been constituted for conducting surprise inspections of handicraft markets at different tourist places in the valley. Officials said with anticipation of huge tourist inflow during this summer, the authorities have decided to register all traders, dealing with Kashmir craft. They said the guests, who visit different tourist places not only enjoy beauty of nature but also purchase crafts produced by artisans of the State. Therefore, the Enforcement Wing of Quality Control Division, Directorate of Handicrafts has constituted special inspection teams to conduct surprise inspection of dealers carrying out the business of Handicrafts in various notified tourist areas of the state. This, they said will help to safeguard the interests of Handicraft artisans of the state and to save the gullible tourists from being cheated by some unscrupulous businessman selling machine made items in the name of Kashmir art. All the Handicraft dealers are hereby informed that as per the provisions of Tourist Trade Act 1978, it is mandatory for every dealer carrying on the business of handicrafts in the notified tourist areas of Jammu and Kashmir to get their business establishments registered with Directorate of Handicrafts and those already registered are asked to get their registration certificates renewed. The Handicraft dealers are also advised to sell only genuine Handicrafts and refrain from sale of machine made items in the name of Kashmir art. They should affix tags depicting price and composition on each item displayed for sale and also ensure cash memo's issued to the tourists. The inspection teams are authorized to initiate necessary action as warranted under the provisions of Tourist Trade Act, 1978 against the erring dealers found violating the norms of the Act.
