Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 10: People's Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's motorcade was today stoned heavily by anti-social elements in Shopian town in south Kashmir, forcing the opposition leader to take shelter in a police camp. Sayeed, who had gone to Shopian for an election rally in support of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, came under heavy stone pelting in Meemandar locality, police said. It said the the PDP patron and several members of his entourage had to take refuge in a police camp at Gagran. Glass panes of some vehicles in the motorcade were smashed, but no one was hurt in the stone pelting, police said. Sources said a group of people had enforced a shutdown in Shopian town in view of Sayeed's scheduled election rally there. Mehbooba, who is the PDP candidate from the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency was, however, not accompanying her father, Sayeed, at the time of the incident. Anantnag goes to polls on April 24. |
