Rajouri records 64.33% peaceful polling

Rajouri, Apr 10 : 64.33 percent voting has been recorded in Rajouri district for Jammu-Poonch Parliament Constituency as compared to 48.7 % in the year 2009.
According to Hemant Kumar Sharma, Deputy commissioner and Mubassar Latifi, district SP the polling passed off peacefully barring a single incident of clash between the supporters of Congress and People Democratic Party (PDP) at Kotdhara in Darhal Assembly constituency.
At most of the places in the district the electors were found demanding deployment of J&K police instead CRPF personnel inside the polling booths.
Hemant Kumar Sharma,IAS, District Election Officer (DEO) said that 10 faulty Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were replaced in all the four Assembly constituencies in the district during polling process.
In a clash between the agents/supporters of People Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress followed by objection raised by Congress agent that a bogus PDP supporter had tried to cast a vote of dead person, CRPF opened mild lathi charge and in exchange of stone pelting two each supporters of Congress and PDP were injured at Kotdhara. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional SP were rushed to the spot and after their intervention polling was restarted at 10.30 am which remained suspended for about 20 minutes. The injured persons have been identified as Wahid Shah, Farooq Ahmed, Mohammad Riaz and Sardar Begam and were admitted in the hospital .A senior police officer who visited Kotdhara said that after investigation a First Information Report (FIR) will be lodged against the trouble creators.
At Phangai in Rajouri constituency there was resentment among the electors due to faulty EVM which was replaced and poling was started smoothly. Barring an incident of clash bettween the supporters of two political parties at Kotdhara the polling passed off peacefully in the entire district" said Hemant Kumar Sharma , deputy commissioner.
Hemant Kumar Sharma,Deputy Commissioner along with Mubassar Latifi, district SP visited many polling stations in Rajouri city and its peripheral areas and also cast his vote in a booth at tehsil office. In Noushera Constituency 34645 male and 32559 female used their franchise and the voting percentage touched 72.95% that has broke all the previous records.In Darhal Constituency 60.8 % voters casted their vote while the voting percentage for Rajouri and Kalakot constituencies remained at 60.75% and approximately 58% respectively.
