High voter turnout in Jammu sends shiver down Coalition's spine | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 10: Though the Congress leaders and workers have been denying any impact of Modi wave in Jammu but the voting trend in the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat has been an eye opener for every one. One can understand the fact that during 2009, the polling percentage was around 50 percent but this time it has increased by more than 15 percent which is the clear indication that people want change. The National Conference-Congress coalition government has been denying any impact of BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi in J&K but the kind of enthusiasm people showed towards voting is an encouraging thing for democracy but a worrying situation for the ruling alliance. "This election is the important phase in Indian democracy where people want change of guards. I have come here to vote for India and request every one to vote in the elections," said Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Jammu east. Like Kumar, there were hundreds of youth heading towards polling booths to cast their votes. Most enthusiasm was among women, who participated in huge number in Jammu city to exercise their franchise. "Women have to play important role in electing the leaders who will form new laws and rules for us. Women are the worst sufferers of price rise on essential commodities and if the new government can bring change then it will be good for us," said Laskhmi Devi, who was standing in a queue to cast her vote in Gorkha Nagar area. But most of the electorates were giving clear signals that they are voting for change and are hopeful of improving their lives. Bu there were people who said that they will vote for only those people who are better educated and are not corrupt. "Corruption is still the biggest issue in our lives and I think present government has failed on every front to tackle this menace. My vote is for corruption free government," said Abhimanyu, a young voter.
