Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 10: The joining of former MP and senior leader from Rajouri into BJP has stirred the hornets' nest with some BJP leaders openly opposing the same.
According to sources, though BJP has downplayed the threat given by some senior party leaders on joining of Hussain but these leaders are likely to take a banner of revolt against the party shortly.
Sources said one of the senior leaders and district president of Rajouri BJP Yogesh Sharma has made it already clear to Party leadership that in case he was denied party ticket to contest the elections from Rajouri Assembly segment he will be constrained to contest as independent candidate as he is under constant pressure from his supports to contest elections. Sources said some senior BJP leaders are in constant touch with Sharma for last two days persuading him not to go for harsh decision.
Meanwhile some ardent supporters of Taliban Hussain are not also happy with the decision of their leader in joining BJP and have also given a warning to disassociate themselves from him. This warning has also perturbed the former MP, sources added.
According to sources Hussein thinks that he wields good public
influence in his home constituency Rajouri and support of BJP voters can be an added advantage to him and tilt the balance in his favour in the coming assembly elections. This contention is however rejected by his opponents and detractors.
Sources said Taliban Hussain is of the opinion with the division in non BJP voters among Congress, NC and PDP coupled with personal image of former MP his chances are more bright in view of BJPs committed voters and cadre .
Sources said Hussain is also a non controversial politician who is enjoying a good public rapport among all communities in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch . This is the reason that BJP high command did not give much thought and readily accepted his offer to join the party. This too has been rejected by his detractors and
opponents in BJP.
It may be recalled that Ch Taliban Hussain joined the BJP at a function here yesterday organized by Party which was chaired by BJP State president and MP, Jugal Kishroe Sharma, its Legislative Party leader Ashok Khajuria, BJP spokespersons Farooq Khan, Sunil Sethi, Balbir Ram and other senior Party leaders.
With joining of Ch Hussian BJP has received a shot in arm as the former MP has a good public rapport in Rajouri and Poonch districts. Sources said eying 44+ seats in the coming Assembly elections in the State, BJP is likely to field him in Rajouri Assembly segment to take on coalition partners Congress and NC as well as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sources said with his good public rapport Ch Hussian is considered to emerge as a strong contender in the Rajouri Assembly belt and can be a formidable challenge to the other parties. Even some local leaders of BJP in Rajouri have expressed their displeasure with the decision and warned to contest elections as independent candidate. But this is not going to cut much ice and were only a pressure tactics, sources added.
Sources said BJP is consolidating its position in the State day by day as many prominent Muslim leaders have joined the Party already. They included Ghulam Qadir Wani from Doda, ex IGP Farooq Khan, Dr Naseem Choudhary, journalist Jhangir Ahmed. Sources said some more Muslim leaders are approaching the BJP to join
the Party and demanding mandate to contest the Assembly elections from Valley and other party of Jammu region. Sources said some more Muslim leaders from Rajouri and Poonch districts are also in touch with BJP High Command and local leaders and have shown their willingness to contest elections on Party ticket. It may be recalled that former MP and senior Congress leader, Ch. Lal Singh has already announced his willingness to join party on August 25 in presence of BJP national president Amit Shah at Kathua. Sources said with the joining of Mr Singh and other senior leaders in
the party BJP will not only consolidate its position but can emerge as a strong force in the State whose support will be crucial in formation of next Government.
Sources said BJP is also in search of some likeminded groups with whom it can make seat adjustments in Kashmir Valley and already in this regard senior Party leaders have held informal meetings with the leaders of various political outfits active in Kashmir.
