SRINAGAR, Aug 14: In a major embarrassment to police and security forces agencies, Pakistani flags appeared in some localities of summer capital and other areas of Kashmir valley. The flags were put up in connection with the Independence Day of Pakistan that was celebrated today.
Reports and eye-witnesses said that Pakistani flags appeared in some of the localities of downtown city. A Pakistani flag appeared on the busy Residency Road early in the morning. The flag was removed by the policemen, but not before it came into the notice of the people who passed through the road.
Eye-witnesses told Early Times that couple of girls owing allegiance to separatist outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) appeared on the Residency Road just opposite to the Abi Guzar area in the morning. The girls were carrying a Pakistani flag and it caught the attention of the people who were present in the area.
Press photographers and videographers of different local, national and international media organizations rushed to the spot and captured the Pakistani flag in their cameras both still and video. The activists of DeM placed the Pakistani flag on the iron fencing of the Pratap Park that lies adjacent to the Residency Road.
The information about the presence of Pakistani flag reached the nearest police station of Kothi Bagh. In no time some police personnel of the police station boarding a gypsy appeared on the scene and removed the Pakistani flag. However, the two activists of DeM had already left the scene and as such no action could be taken against them.
Reports said that Pakistani flags also appeared in the Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta, Sekidafar and Barzulla areas of Srinagar city. These flags were erected on the electric poles and people could be seen seeing these flags with wonder. Some of the people in fact mocked at the preparedness of police and security forces in this regard. They said how come the flags were erected despite the security bandobast across the city.
Reports reaching here said that some Pakistani flags appeared on the ever busy K P Road in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on the electric poles. Importantly there is presence of police and CRPF personnel in good number on this road and the presence of Pakistani flags exposed chinks in the armour of police and security forces. The Pakistani flags were removed later on, but not before they came into the notice of the people passing by.
Reports said that at least couple of Pakistani flags appeared in the Hajin area of North Kashmir's Bandipora district. The Pakistani flags were hoisted on the electric poles and these were removed after some time by the police personnel. Here too, people got wonderstruck over the appearance of Pakistani flags in their locality.
