BANDIPORA, Aug 23: Jammu boys and Samba girls bagged the title trophies in the 26th State Volleyball Championship, organised by the Volleyball Association of J&K at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Bandipora, here today. In boys final, Jammu defeated district Samba 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 31-33, 25-15). In girls section, district Samba trounced Jammu 3-1 (25-11, 21-25, 25-12, 25-17) to take home the trophy. Earlier in the semifinals, Jammu beat Baramulla 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-23) while Samba outplayed Kathua 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21). The matches were officiated by the technical penal including Amarjeet Singh, Mulkh Raja Sharma, Manik Nargotra, Neeraj Sharma, Azhar Aziz and Waseem Raja Malik. It was for the first time the Association organised the state championship in Kashmir Valley. In the final and valedictory of the three-day championship, Assistant Commissioner and chairman of the organising committee, S A Raina was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Speaking to the gathering, he appreciated the association for holding the event in Bandipora thus providing an opportunity to the locals to witness top spikers from the state to exhibit their talent. Earlier, in his welcome address, treasurer of the Association, H S Gill presented a detailed note of the event. He said that 18 teams, including six in girls section, took part in this competition. Later, senior office bearers of the Association, R C Sharma and V K Magotra thanked the District Volleyball Association of Bandipore for the successful conduct of the event. |
