NC losing plot, Rattanpuri goes separatist way | Forgets Saffron Mission, talks politics | | Fazal Khan Srinagar, Aug 23: As the ruling National Conference has realized that the chances of party to retain the power in Jammu and Kashmir are bleak its leaders have started talking about Kashmir again. Speaking at a function in Pampore area today the NC Rajya Sabha Member from south Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri raked up the Kashmir issue in presence of the Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh, who laid foundation stone of Rs 24. 54 crore prestigious Saffron Park Project at Dussu, Pampore. Singh, who during his speech reiterated the pledge of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring saffron revolution in Kashmir, was caught off guard when the Member Parliament started discussing the political conations of Jammu and Kashmir. People who had assembled to witness the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Saffron Park Project were of the opinion that their MP would thank the centre Government for its quick action. The MP totally ignored the saffron issue and toed the line of separatists. Pertinently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Kargil last week had promised that Saffron Park Project would be set up in Kashmir to revive the saffron sector of the Valley. A few days after PM's announcement, Union Agriculture Minister landed in Kashmir and laid the foundation stone of the project. "It seems National Conference has lost the plot as the Modi led Government has acted tough. India calling off talks with Pakistan has left the NC leaders issueless as they have been hoodwinking the people of Kashmir for the past six decades by claiming that Kashmir is an issue," said a local BJP leader, who was present on the occasion. Another local leader said that we were of the opinion that Rattanpuri would raise the issues related to saffron development and how this industry was hit during the past 22-years. "It is disappointing that he (Rattanpuri) indulged in rhetoric rather than raising our genuine issues," he said. "The Union Minister had come to Pampore to inaugurate the Saffron Park Project and it had nothing to do with politics. Every Kashmiri knows that speeches cannot resolve Kashmir issue and for us our local issues are important than this useless politicking." Another observer said that NC leaders need to realize that people have matured politically and more than politics they are interested in development. "NC leaders know it very well that defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections is inevitable. They are trying to shift the focus of the masses from development to non-issues like Indo-Pak talks, Kashmir a trilateral issue and other non issues. It is not going to help their cause. Common man is least interested in India-Pakistan talks nor is he bothered about the political connotations of Jammu and Kashmir,' the observer said. |
