BARAMULLA, Aug 23: Hundreds of parents along with the girl students staged protest in Pattan on Saturday seeking thorough probe into the embezzlement of Scholarship funds which were being provided by the Social Welfare Department to the Government Girls High School Pattan in Baramulla District of North Kashmir. Protesters who told Early Times over phone that a teacher (name with held) at the Government Girls High School Pattan who also acts as a clerk always finds ways and means to mint money from the poor girl students.
Parent of a girl student Shazia (name changed) said that a particular teacher has swindled the scholarship money and other benefits provided by the government to their girl's students. "we maintained silence so far but tainted teacher instead of collecting Rupees 930 as registration fee at the beginning of the session, the said teacher forced students to pay Rupees 1250 without knowing for what they are being paid and that too without providing of proper receipts, they alleged.
The protesters further said that session is almost about to finish but the students have not so far received uniforms and books from the school, which shows the callousness of the particular department. The concerned officials informed us that they have already transferred money to school account for providing of uniform and other items to the students , but the particular teacher who takes
care of the school account has also swindled that money too, the father of girl student Nazir Ahmad said. A top official from Zonal Education Office Nehalpora Pattan confirmed that they transferred money for supplying free uniforms to the students some six months back to the school bank account.
The parents further said that Department of Social Welfare provided scholarship of Rupees 1900 each to 78 students but that money has also been swindled by the particular teacher. When contacted Thesil Social Welfare Officer Pattan Aijaz Masoodi he said that, "we give Pre-Matric Scholarships to the students and the money is transferred into the School Account, which is being issued through Payees Account cheques. Early times brought this serious issue into the notice of Principal Government Girls High School Pattan Ghulam Ahmad he said that I don't know about this but I came to know that children have not been provided uniforms and scholarship. He added and said that if really it might have happened with the students and had been charged extra registration fee, I will take a stern action against the said teacher and I have also issued a show cause notice to him.
