Law enforcing agencies reluctant to act against land mafia at Budgam | Inspite of DC's orders, illegal road at Chadoora yet to be demolished | | Early Times Report
Budgam, Aug 23 : Inspite of the orders of Deputy Commissioner, Budgam , the law enforcing agencies in Budgam are reluctant to demolish an illegal road which is being constructed through the banks of Doodh Ganga canal in Chadoora area of central Kashmir's Budgam district . The powerful land mafia, according to sources, has allegedly corrupted the agencies concerned as a result of which the orders of deputy commissioner, Budgam, to demolish the illegal road remains unfulfilled till date. The land mafia which has been active in Chadoora tehsil for the last many years has allegedly encroached upon the Doodh Ganga canal by undertaking construction of a full- fledged road through the canal itself so that the land which is mostly "Khah Charai" and state land is grabbed and sold at higher rates . According to locals, some land brokers , property dealers and a strong land mafia of the area has purchased huge chunk of Khah charai and agricultural land along the banks of Doodh Ganga canal from Dawlat Pora to Hanji Gund for peanuts (Rs 3 to 4 lakhs per kanal) as the said land had no road connectivity. Now this group of land brokers and mafia is planning to sell the same land on much higher rate (Rs 25 to Rs 30 Lakhs per kanal). All this was not possible without the "blessings" of the departments concerned, they felt. Pertinent to mention that the mafia has already converted more than two hundred kanals of agriculture (Aabi Awal) and State land (Khah Charai) into commercial complexes in Chadoora town itself for the last five to six years which has created a mess in the town. In addition to it, Doodh Ganga canal has been encroached at several places in Chadoora town as many residential and commercial complexes have been erected on its banks. The officials of revenue department , local Municipal Committee and department of flood control are the mute spectators to all this alleged illegal activity. Earlier, the Executive Engineer Flood Control division Narbal Budgam had issued a notice to the land grabbers under State Water Conservation Act and a challan against them was also produced in the competent court weeks back but till date the illegal road has not been demolished, said Fayaz Ahmad a local resident of Chadoora. |
