Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Aug 23: Despite Education department's claims that government schools have been provided better infrastructure and qualified teaching staff, many schools in Khawas Education zone in Rajouri district even don't have roofs and during rains children were asked to observe holiday.
Many schools in Narla and Khawas areas, which are situated in far flung areas, have been running without roofs and students are forced to sit in the open whether it was summer or winter.Primary school at Ghai Bas is waiting for the roof for the last more than two years as it was damaged in powerful wind.
Education department officials claim that under SSA many new building have been constructed but these officials forget to provide money for the maintenance of existing schools. Most of these schools don't have toilet complex and especially girl students faces many problems to go in the open.
Safe drinking water was never provided at these schools and students and staff have been depending on natural resources or some times on hand pumps.
All these problems have been hampering the routine studies of the students and that is the main reason that the students of these for flung areas never gets higher education and go either for 4th class jobs after matriculation or chose to work as laborers in Kashmir valley and at Jammu. "As for as Ghai Bas school is concerned the matter has been taken up with the higher authorities several times but the funds were not released," said Shaib Din , ZEO, Khawas.
