BANDIPORA, Nov 17: Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested two former renegades for allegedly attacking the cavalcade of People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Bandipora district of North Kashmir. "People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Sonawari constituency, YasirReshi's cavalcade was allegedly attacked with stones and stick near Nawabadi damaging three vehicles. Reshi was on way to Safapora to address an election rally. His security guards exercised maximum restraint and did not retaliate", sources said.According to PDP supporter from Safapora Mohammad Altaf, attack on Reshi's cavalcade was 'manoeuvred' by his rival National Conference candidate. However Jammu and Kashmir Police took cognizance of the case after Reshi filed a formal complaint before Election Officer in Bandipora and Superintendent of Police (SP). Sources said that three former government gunmen and supporters of NC candidate, Ayub Mir, Kamal Mir and NikaBai, all residents of Nawabadi, were directly involved in the attack. A senior police official has said that after taking note of the alleged attack, they have arrested two persons while Ayub alias AyubNabid is still at large. "The culprit who is evading arrest will be nabbed soon. "We have registered a case against the accused vide FIR number 25/2010 under section 147, 148, 341, 407 of RPC," official added. |
