Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 20: For the first time since December 23 when the results of assembly elections were out, the major political parties have shifted their base camp to winter capital.
The PDP which emerged as the single largest party in the elections bagging 28 of 87 seats has summoned a meeting of its executive committee in Jammu on January 24 at Party Patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed's residence at Ved Mandir.
PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti who usually stays back in summer capital during the winters, arrived here on Tuesday.
Majority of the NC leaders including sitting legislators too have arrived here during the last two days.
Kashmir Congress is already in Jammu. Most of the defeated candidates of all the parties too have arrived.
However, PDP alone has serious business to do in the winter capital.
Being actively engaged in discussions with the BJP over government formation, the PDP has to do a lot of ground work.
On the other hand, the Election commission of India is likely to issue notification for 4 Rajya Sabha seats from the state on January 28. While NC and Congress, the estranged partners, are reportedly exploring the possibility to put a united face at least for Rajyasabha elections in an effort to disturb the prospects of would be PDP-BJP alliance of winning all the 4 seats.
Given the compulsions of Rajyasabha elections and also the visit of US president Barack Obama on Republic day to New Delhi on January 26, the leadership of both PDP and BJP is striving for a win-win deal on government formation.
Sources on Tuesday said that both PDP and BJP are keen to fight the RajyaSabha elections in alliance electorate for which is the sitting legislators.
They said that the central leadership of BJP wants a popular government in place in Jammu and Kashmir before the Obama visit.
Sources said efforts are on to finalise a deal on government formation so that the new dispensation assume office before January 26.
