| Dir Family Welfare threatens to sue Early Times | | Says, got his DOB rectified in May 2014; blames clerk for committing mistake | | Akshay Azad

JAMMU, Jan 29: In-charge Director Family Welfare Jammu Baldev Raj Sharma, has threatened to sue Early Times for highlighting how he allegedly tampered with his Date of Birth (DoB) to get his services extended by two more years.
This newspaper on Jan 22, 2015, had published a news story "Director Family Welfare Changes his date of birth from 1955 to 1957."
Dr Baldev Raj Sharma has shot a letter to Early Times under no. DFW/JK/EST-Gaz/8181-83, dated 27/1/2015 stating: " I am astonished after reading the said news item which is defamatory in nature and not based on records. As my Date of Birth is 17/03/1957 which was wrongly mentioned in tentative seniority list dated 17/10/2011 due to clerical mistake and was later rectified on 11/5/2014 on basis of records, Service-Book and Matriculation certificate".
Surprisingly, Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma has failed to check various other seniority lists issued by Jammu and Kashmir Health department, from time to time, mentioning his Date of Birth as 15-12-1955, instead of the Date of Birth as 17/3/1957.
Early Times had not based its previous news story just on the only tentative seniority list dated 17/10/2011 but all other lists issued by Health and Family Welfare department time to time, were with date of birth of Dr Baldev Raj Sharma is clearly mentioned as 15/12/1955.
According to tentative seniority list of Assistant Surgeons of Health department issued under the order number 556-HME of 2011, dated 17/10/2011, incumbent Incharge Director Family Welfare, Baldev Raj Sharma stood at serial number 23 and his Date of Birth (DOB) was shown as 15-12-1955.
Moreover, according to Final Seniority list of Assistant Surgeons of H&FW department, issued vide government order number 197-HME-of 2012, dated 12-3/2012, Dr Sharma is stood at serial number 17 and his date of birth is 15-12-1955.
Besides in another tentative seniority list of Medical Officers issued by department in 2013, according to Government Order number 278-HME of 2013, dated 22/4/2013, Baldev Raj Sharma stands at serial number 6 and his date of Birth is 15-12-1955.
Interestingly, only in the seniority list of Medical Officers of Health and Family Welfare, according to government order number 295, dated 11/5/2014, Dr Baldev Raj Sharma stood at number 1, and his Date of Birth (DOB) was shown as 17/3/1957, a difference of more than one year.
Surprisingly, Baldev Raj Sharma remained mute spectator throughout his service tenure and when he was about to attain superannuation, he managed to change his date of birth to 17-03-1957.
It is also very surprising to note that Jammu and Kashmir government had enhanced the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years on June 3, 2014 but Baldev Raj Sharma had rectified the clerical mistake on May 11, 2014, the question arises, why he was not retired from government service in December 2013, when he had attained the age of 58 years. |
