Land mafia occupies Govt land in Thannamandi, Rajouri Municipalities 1/31/2015 9:37:16 PM Early Times Report rajouri, Jan 31: Right under the nose of district administration, Revenue officials in nexus with 'land mafia', operating in Rajouri district, have occupied hundreds of acres of government land illegally especially land falling under Rajouri and Thannamndi Municipalities. According to a report reportedly made available by the J&K Revenue department more than 2 acres of government land is under the illegal occupation of land mafia and Revenue officials and Rajouri district top the list with 49502 acres of government land encroached by the people. SK Mughal, president; advocate RK Mehta and Nazir Hussain office holders of Social Justice, NGO said that the encroachment of government land is still in progress in Rajouri and Thannamandi tehsils and right under the nose of district administration lawlessness prevailing in the district. While demanding CBI inquiry into the nexus between Revenue Officials and 'Land Mafia , SK Mughal said that just in the vicinity of the office of Assistant Executive Officer, Thanamandi some members of Land Mafia have started construction of the shops but the authorities keeping silence on the matter. "The matter was several times taken up with the concerned authorities and despite appearing in some daily News Papers of the state the concerned authorities have been observing criminal silence and taking advantages of this silence now the encroachers have started encroachment of land belong to historical monument (fort) situated at Thannamandi town" said Shieraz Inqalabi office bearer of Thanamndi based Social Justice , NGO. He added few years ago the State Government had started drive against the encroachers and many encroachments were removed in Jammu and other towns but the JBC that headed for Rajouri district never reached here for the reasons best known to the concerned authorities and the unholy nexus between Revenue officials continue to flourish till today. As per Revenue Records out of 2 acres of land encroached by the people in Jammu region Rajouri district top the list with 49502 acres, followed by Doda district with 22133 acres of land under illegal occupation and district Ramban district stood at number 3 with 20940 acres of government land illegally occupied by the encroachers. J&K revenue record further reveal that in Kashmir valley 52866 acres of land has been in illegal occupation/encroached by the land mafia.
