CWA deputation meets Director CAPD | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 31: A deputation of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) today met with Director Consumer Affair Public Distribution (CAPD) and highlighted various problems being face by the consumers and lack of interest of the consumer protection agencies to come to the rescue of the consumers. According to press release, president Vikram Gour informed the main points discussed included timely availability of food grains at ration depots, digitization of ration cards and uploading them on internet and website for information of consumers and inviting objections if any, bifurcation of ration cards, some ration dealers not cooperating with consumers with regard to verification of forms for digitization, holding of Price Fixation Committee meetings at regular intervals to regulate the prices, display of rate lists of vegetables, fruits etc and down ward revision of fares and transport charges for carriage of passengers and goods, due to more than 20% fall in prices of petrol and diesel. He also said the Director CAPD, heard on all these issues and also subsequent issues rose during the discussion and admitted that for last couple of months due attention could not paid to the consumer problems on account of the elections and prevailing conditions. It was assured that every effort is being made to make food grains available in time. He further said that CAPD is going ahead with the digitization of ration cards and it has been decided that ration dealers will not be involved in this exercise and it will be directly done at deptt level only, for the convenience of consumers. Survey is being conducted for each house-hold and consumers are advised to fill the forms and submit directly to concern Assistant Director of CAPD. "This will also facilitate bifurcation of ration cards. As regards meetings of Price Fixation Committee, the same will be looked into and directions were on spot issued in this regard," he stated and adding regarding down ward revision of transport charges the Director, CAPD assured CWA that matter will be immediately taken up at government level to advise the Transport Authorities to immediately refix passenger fares and transportation charges as this downward revision shall effect the overall price of goods in the market. |
