Environment dept. organizes awareness program on Global Warming

Jammu, Feb 13: The Department of Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing organized an environment awareness programme on Global Warming at Government Higher Secondary School Pallanwalaon Friday.
A symposium and a painting competition was organized by the department in which around 300 students participated. The main aim of the programme was to make the students aware of the Global Warming and Climate Change issues and prepare them in a scientific way for protection of Environment and Ecology of the area.
On the ocasison, MLA Chamb Dr. Krishan Lal was the chief guest and
Suresh Chugh, IFS APCCF and Director, Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K was the guest of honour. Bansi Lal Sharma, Principal Govt. Higher Secondary School, Pallanwala presided over the function.
The students expressed their views about the issue of Global Warming and participated in the painting competition. Dr. Krishan Lal appreciated the efforts taken by the department in creating awareness about burning issues of Climate Change. He said that there is lot of scope in his constituency for afforestation and laid emphasis on the importance of Medicinal Plants. The chief guest also distributed prizes to the winners.
While, Suresh Chugh, IFS encouraged the students in the Environment Protection movement by way of reducing the carbon foot-print and doing small things for conserving the energy. He said that planting trees is the only way we can reduce the carbon from the atmosphere and protect the planet. He also distributed Environment awareness material to the students. Qaim-ud-din Malik, Regional Director, Jammu also spoke on the occasion and said that organizing such programmes goes a long way in creating awareness among the children for protecting the Environment for the future.
The judges included Jagdev Singh, Lecturer, Rashpal Singh, Lecturer and Rashpal Singh, Master. Vishali Sharma, Kajal Bau and Karan Singh were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Symposium and Preeti Manhas won the consolation prize. Similarly, Akshay Kumar, Sakshi Kumari and Sonia Rajput were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd in painting competition and Deepak Singh won consolation prize.
