Sanitation services all set to ‘go for six’ as employees to go on 3 day strike

SRINAGAR, Feb 13: Sanitation services across the Kashmir valley are all set to be hit as the sanitation staff of the different municipal committees and municipals have decided to go on three day strike in support of their demands. Talking to Early Times, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Chairman Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum (ULBEUF) said that the previous state government headed by Omar Abdullah paid no heed to their demands pending for a long time. Manzoor said that employees of urban local bodies have been suffering for a long time and there is no solution to the problems. "All the employees of the municipal committees and councils of the Kashmir valley would observe three day pen down strike from February 19 in support of their demands. All the services including the sanitation services would remain suspended on the three days of strike.
There would be complete lock out and the authorities are responsible for it," said ULBEUF Chairman. Manzoor said that before carrying out the three day strike the employees of the municipal committees and councils would march towards the city centre on February 16 and carry out strong protests in support of their demands. He said if the present dispensation led by Governor Narendra Nath Vohra does not fulfill their demands up to February 18 then they would be forced to carry out the three day strike."It is highly condemnable that some of the Executive Officers and other officials involved in various scams have been given charge of sensitive municipal committees and councils in Kashmir. This is despite the fact that previous government had promised that tainted officials would be given non-sensitive postings," said ULBEUF Chairman.
Manzoor said that many cases are pending against the tainted officials and instead of taking action they have been rewarded with plum postings. He said that reorganization should take place at the earliest so that the budget is released and salaries are paid to the employees working in 46 municipal committees and councils of Kashmir valley.
"Salary of all employees especially of Safai Karamcharies should be released at the earliest. A proper transfer policy should be framed so that some employees working for decades at a particular place are transferred. There is a need for implementation of service rules and reorganization in the department," said ULBEUF Chairman. Manzoor said that release of budget according to service rules and reorganization, release of arrears of 6th pay commission, framing of seniority list of every cadre, issuance of SRO 43 and time bound cases, DPC at divisional and state level regularization of adhoc daily wagers and consolidated workers in the department are some of the demands pending for a long time now.
