SKUAST-J organizes training programme for farmers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 13: Regional Horticulture Research Sub Station, Bhaderwah of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu today organized one day training programme on "High Density Planting for Higher Productivity in Apple and Almond" at Bhaderwah under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Network Project on Outreach of Technologies for Temperate Fruit Crops, wherein more than twenty five farmers participated. According to press release, Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Incharge RHRSS Bhaderwah and Principal Investigator of the Network Project elaborated the participants about the benefits of high density orcharding and various factors and cultural practices to be taken care of from time to time for achieving higher success and increased productivity of these crops in the region. Dr. Jamwal, also discussed about the role of environment and physiological factors in fruitfulness of these fruit crops and suggested measures to obtain optimum quality and quantity of produce. Dr. Neeraj Kotwal suggested protective measures to be taken against insect and pest attacks in high density plantings of apple and almond to achieve higher productivity. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and Dr. Rohit Sharma, scientists of RHRSS Bhaderwah, apprised the participants about the importance of soil testing before the establishment of orchards and timely application of manures and fertilizers to obtain increased production from the orchards of these crops. |
