Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 21: When on September 26,2013, three terrorists dressed in Army fatigue stormed a police station in Kathua and attacked an Army camp at Samba, killing 10 people including an Army officer, did the opposition ask for an explanation from the state government which was run by a Congress-NC coalition Government? No the entire opposition in the state expressed concern over the attack.
A less than three year old report reveals that dressed in Army fatigues, terrorists stormed a police station and then an Army camp in Jammu region killing 10 people, including an Army officer, in twin ';fidayeen'; attacks after they had sneaked in from across the border.
The three heavily armed terrorists, believed to be from banned Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and who were holed up in the camp of the cavalry armoured unit at Samba for several hours after they had barged into the officers' mess, had been killed during a fierce gunfight, army officials had then claimed.
And if the opposition had sought an explanation from then government, the NC leadership would have expressed innocence on the plea that border management was with the Army and the BSF. Compared to the Friday's attack on the police station in Kathua, the September 2013 incident was of a bigger magnitude. If the NC leaders have started seeking explanation from the BJP-PDP coalition government for the Friday's incident, has the NC leadership claimed responsibility for the September 2013 incident ? No, never. In fact the NC leadership has always held the Army and the BSF responsible for any event on the border, especially for ingress of militants.
The early morning terrorist attack in Kathua district rocked the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Friday, with opposition members seeking an explanation from the government on the incident as six people, including three security personnel were killed and nine others were injured.
The issue was raised by NC MLA Devender Singh Rana who wanted to know about the steps being taken by the government to thwart the attack.
"The House wants to know how the militant attack took place, how the militants were able to launch this attack," Rana said. Yes, Rana is correct. He expects the state Government to anticipate the plans of militants..Rana wants the BJP-PDP coalition Government to prevent terrorist attacks on police stations. Rana would have earned laurels for berating the Government or for questioning the coalition Government had his party (National Conference) that headed the coalition Government between 2008 and 2014 been able to thwart terrorist attacks.
Well Rana should give credit to the state security agencies for having eliminated two militants before they could travel to Samba for repeating the 2013 incident. Devendra Singh Rana is a known "intellectual" who has the art of grabbing attention by raising erroneous issues or by asking questions for which the state authorities are not supposed to hold the answer. Since the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been tormented by over two-decade long Pakistan sponsored insurgency a "politician" of the stature of Rana should know it fully well that terrorists strike at will. He should know that terrorists invariably select the target. He is supposed to know that terrorists are free to choose the place and the time for launching a Fidayeen attack.
Terrorists are not NC activists who leak out plans and strategy of the party leadership. These terrorists have the art of giving a slip to security forces that guard the LoC and the IB despite the fact that an 8-ft-high barbed wire fencing has been erected along the borders with Pakistan. Though the barbed wire has helped the security forces to check 80 per cent militant ingress, terrorists keep on looking for a loophole in the border management when they are provided with full assistance from the Army and the Rangers in Pakistan.
PDP and BJP leaders need to thank Devendra Singh Rana for not having blamed the coalition Government for having provided logistic support to militants for carrying out the attack on the police station.
