Jammu, Mar 21: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) awarded scholarship and support worth Rs. 16,20,2101 to 500 children from over 75 villages. According to press release the scholarship of students of village Rehian, Kahnachak, Jerda, Chakrohi, Chadwal, Chhan Rorian, Chakrohi, Jourian, Dansal and Birpur given. The Chief Guest Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Div. Comm. Jammu distributed the scholarships to students on the occasion, He interacted with many of them and impressed upon them to work hard, take full benefit of the support being provided to them by the Trust and achieve excellence in their education to carve out a bright future. He stressed the need of every possible step being taken to promote the education of girls, particularly those who live in the slums and in the remote rural areas. He also wished them a bright future ahead. Since 1997 the Trust has distributed Scholarships worth 95 lacs to needy and meritorious students of government schools of mostly rural areas. The Trust is paying annual scholarships and conducting various other educational and child welfare schemes for children belonging to economically and educationally weak families for the past 18 years. Academic Camps, counseling, Medical help and other supportive measures are being provided by the Trust for reducing illiteracy in the state. 80% of the selected students are girls.
