DD Srinagar to pay liabilities worth crores

Srinagar, Mar 24: Doordarshan Kashmir Srinagar has to pay a balance amount of crores of rupees to private producers of the State for serials made by them for DD Srinagar over last three years.
According to sources the DD authorities of Srinagar Kashmir haphazardly have accepted serials over years together on their own without sanctioned budget from the Prasar Bharti for the same to adjust their favourities on the pretext that the Government has to release the funds some day.
Sources said scores of serials, dramas and documentaries were made by the private producers for DD Srinagar during this period on the orders of the Doordarshan authorities of Kashmir Valley during this period.
However the same has not been approved by the higher ups in Prasar Bharti nor the funds were sanctioned for the same till date.
The situation worsened after the authorities failed to make payments to these producers due to non availability of the budget with the result balance amount of crores of rupees of the private producers is lying against the DD Srinagar.
According to sources when some producers asked the DD authorities why they forced them to execute contracts when there was not sanctioned budget they were told that Government has to pay the liabilities some day and payment can't remain with-held for long.
However some producers have taken the serious exception to the work style of DD authorities at Srinagar saying that this way some favorurities are being adjusted and there is no accountability and fairness in allotment of serials. They have approached the Union Telecommunication Minister also and sought his immediate intervention in the matter.
These producers have also demanded that a criteria be fixed for the allotment of serials to private producers as this way the genuine and deserving people are ignored.
Sources said by allotting serials in an arbitrary manner have generated a lot of resentment among the private producers of the State. They urged the Union Minister to frame a criteria for future in allotment of serials so that no favoritism is shown by any officer while making allotments.
Meanwhile the Union Telecommunication Minister as per sources ahs also take strong note of allotting serials without prior sanction of budget or approval by his Ministry and said this was a liability of crores has been kept for the Ministry to pay. He has also issued instruction to Prasar Bharti to avoid such practice in future and follow the rules strictly.
