Early Times Report

Kathua, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government can bring rehabilitation scheme for surrendered militants but not for those army men who actually belong to J&K but have sacrificed their lives outside J&K. This is likely to leave a discouraging effect on the state youth who want to join army.
Col (retd) P L Choudhary, father of Kirti Chakra awardee, Captain Sunil Choudhary who was killed by ULFA militants in an encounter on January 27, 2008, condemned the discriminatory attitude of state government where martyrdom of J&K youth outside the state is completely ignored.
He also criticised the recent twin militant attacks in Samba and Kathua districts. He has been fighting for the welfare of martyrs' families.
Col Choudhary said Himachal Pardesh and Punjab government give financial support to martyrs' families but J&K government support only those army men who belong to J&K and sacrifice their lives on the land of J&K.
He said during his meetings with them, the former J&K chief ministers had personally condemned the policy but had not taken any favourable step in this regard. He said some politicians had attended the cremation of his martyr son and assured to build a memorial in his name but nothing had so far been done by them in this regard. He said his meetings with governor N N Vohra and ex-chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had also yielded no results.
He said no petrol pump or gas agency had been allotted to the family despite of 8 pc quota for martyrs' families.
The ex-colonel said J&K government had no emotions for the martyrs' families but "does not leave any stone unturned to facilitate surrendered militants". He asked why the state youth should join army or para-military forces as no facility was being given to their families after their martyrdom.
He asked the politicians to send their wards to army to know the real pain of parents who lose their talented sons in encounters or militant attacks. He also condemned Er Rashid's statement wherein he stressed to turn Kashmir into Palestine. "Youth sacrifice their lives for their country but such politicians encourage militant groups," he said.
He was also unhappy with the working of sainik welfare society, saying that it too had failed to show concern for the families of the martyred soldiers.
He opposed any type of dialogue with Pakistan and sought strict action against it. While citing the example of USA Army that had killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, he said the union government should allow Army to attack militant camps in Pakistan.
