Jammu, Mar 24: In the case of development of Jammu, successive governments in the state have preferred lame excuses instead of materialising the undertaken projects. In the similar manner, the prestigious ropeway project has been hanging in balance.
The Ropeway Project was severely affected by the floods in September 2014 and is likely to face unexpected delay in compilation.
This was informed by the government in the Upper House of state legislature in a written reply to a question of MLC Ajay Kumar Sadhotra. In his question, he had sought to know the status report of Bahu Fort Aerial Ropeway project.
"The ropeway project comprises two phases, first phase from Peerkho to Mahamaya Park and Phases II from Mahamaya Park to Shahabad. The contract of the project has been signed with M/s Damodar Ropeway and Infra Ltd Calcutta, who are in technical collaboration with STM Turkey and also M/s RITES (a Government of India Undertaking) have been engaged as Project management Consultants, "replied by Tourism Department.
The work on Phase II was to start at Shahabad by same Company on September 13, 2014 but the local private land owner didn't allow the execution of the work due to non-payment of compensation of land. The matter has been taken up with Deputy Comissioner Jammu with whom Rs 802.82 lakh as cost of the land has been deposited.
The data furnished by Tourism department claimed that the corporation is in the process of opening of letter of credit for Rs 13.50 cr in favour of M/s STM Turkey of M/s Damodar Ropeway and Infra design part. It further revealed that some areas of first phase of the project were severely affected by the floods which has necessitated redesigning of the design of the phase first and the work on revision of designs finalization is underway.
