JAMMU, Apr 21: N.N. Vohra, Governor, released Dr. S.P. Vaid's book "Paharies of J&K: An Analytical Study" and its Urdu version "Jammu Kashmir key Pahari Log" at a function held here at the Raj Bhavan today.
The author is a Senior Fellow of Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR). The two books trace the origin and historical background of the Paharies and their society, culture, rewaz-e-aam, socio-economic life, changing lifestyles and the present day aspirations and demands of these people who live in the border mountainous belt of J&K. The author has relied on official records, reports, memories and interactions with knowledgeable personalities of the State. The Governor complimented the author for writing two analytical books on people who compromise a valuable segment of J&K's population, and hoped that there would be of benefit to students and scholars who undertake socio-economic research. The Governor wished the author continuing successes in his future literary endeavours. |
