Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 21: People of Jammu region, who always regret that they never got their due share in the governance of the state and have been subjected to all-round degeneration, have found an effective spokesperson in the person of Kashmiri Pandit activist Sushil Pandita. He is quite prominent and known to whom he should be known. Pandita has been living in Delhi after exile from Kashmir. He has become vocal and taking up the cause not only of his own internally displaced community and the national cause in Kashmir in a big way, but has also been speaking for the neglected people of Jammu region.
The other day, during a TV debate on the happenings in Kashmir, including the anti-India even that took place in Srinagar on April 15 in which Syed Ali Geelani, Masarat alam and their supporters made anti-India and pro-Pakistan speeches, daughter of late Abdul Gani Lone, Shabnam Lone, who also lives in Delhi and is an advocate, and Pandita clashed with each other. While expressing his views on the dangerous developments in the Valley, especially Srinagar city, Pandita also talked about the plight of the people of Jammu region. He said the people of Jammu region do not have a proper representation in the Cabinet that takes policy decisions and shapes the future of the state. He referred to the portfolios which were given to Kashmir and Jammu and insisted that the distribution was unfair.
His whole argument was that Jammu has little or no share in the Cabinet. What Pandita said didn't go well with Shabnam Lone. In fact, she got provoked to the extent that she uttered a few strong words against Pandita.
She said Pandita unnecessarily brought the Jammu issue into the debate and accused him of trying to sharpen the regional divide. She wanted him to focus only on Kashmir, thus establishing that she was no different from others in the Valley to whom Kashmir means everything and Jammu and Ladakh mean no more than their colonies.
It was a different matter that Pandita held his ground very firmly and made his point that Jammu deserved more, as its people had all along played a very important role to defeat the anti-nationals and defend and promote further the national cause in the state.
Indeed, it is heartening to note that Pandita and his ilk are there in Delhi who have the guts to say what is correct and who appreciate the role of people of Jammu not only in private discussions but also in TV studios.
