Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Apr 21: Establishment of Mother and Child Care Hospital and Medical College here in old complex of District Hospital Baramulla is still a dream for the residents and Business community. The callous attitude of the government has exposed their non serious approach towards the development.
Sources told Early Times, "Government of India (GOI) has approved Mother and Child Care Hospital (MCH) and sanctioned huge amount on it to complete renovation work within six months.
"The GOI had assured the state government that classes for the MBBS students will be started very soon, neither the MCH nor the Medical College was established here. The callous attitude of the government has exposed their non serious approach towards the development, Said sources.
This is centrally located place for all residents of Old Town and even though there is no Public Health Center (PHC) in Baramulla town which was need of the hour, sources added.
President Chemists and Distributors Association Baramulla, Mohammad Ashraf Ganie said, "In 2013 when District Hospital was shifted to the new place Kanthbagh, we moved from pillar to post and appealed concerned authorities to make this MCH functional but nothing has been done so for in this regard.
Baramulla town is almost having Fifty to sixty thousands of population who are lacking of basic facilities including health. If this MCCH would have been completed within a stipulated period of time rush of patients might have cater on every hospital across the district, Said Ganie.
A group of chemists said that, "there were fifty medical shops that were running their business smoothly, now there are only thirty medicals shops with no business at all.
According to them the business community has suffered a lot in all respects, whereas hundreds of people were unemployed because of this grave problem, while adding they said, "They were politically victimized especially during NC- Congress government
Early times have learnt, "Director Health Services, Kashmir had written a letter to Commissioner Secretary to government Health and Medical Education department Jammu and Kashmir, vide letter no DHSK/plg /712/ prop/2013/1168-71 Dated: 27/06/2013, for establishment of CHC/Mother and Child Care Hospital in Old Complex of District Hospital Baramulla.
However the then Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone had also dispatched a letter to the Director Health Services, Kashmir Srinagar, for Establishment of MCH at Old District Hospital Campus Baramulla and requirement of Staff thereof, vide no: DDCB/2014/603-05 Dated: 24/04/2014.
The irony is letters were dispatched to the higher authorities for their approval and consideration so that common masses, residents of these areas and the business community will not suffer at large, but no concrete steps have been taken up so for.
