SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The Jammu & Kashmir Police today refuted the claims of National Conference leaders that they were not allowed to visit Narbal area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Monday to express sympathies with family of Suhail Ahmad Sofi who was killed in police firing on Saturday last.
A police official while clarifying the position regarding the incident said that leaders of National Conference were requested to reschedule their visit as some of the separatist leaders had gone to the family of Suhail to express their condolences and sympathies with the bereaved family.
The police official said that they did not want the situation to go out of hand since the visit of National Conference leaders collided with the visit of separatist leaders. The police official said that there was a chance of breach of peace at the place had National Conference leaders got in contact with the separatist leaders.
"It has been reported by a section of media today that leaders of a mainstream political party were not allowed to visit the family of deceased Suhail Ahmad Sofi at Narbal to pay condolences yesterday. It is to clarify that Police did not stop anybody from visiting the family of the deceased," said the police official.
The police official further stated, "However, the district authorities of Budgam requested the leaders of political party to delay their visit by some time as at that point of time, some separatists were at the mourners' house and there was an apprehension of breach of peace had these leaders reached Narbal same time. The media reports that the leaders of mainstream political party were not allowed to go to Narbal are factually incorrect."
It would be in place to mention here that National Conference had on Monday alleged that their leaders were not allowed to go to Narbal to offer condolence and sympathize with the family of Suhail.
Meanwhile, a party spokesman today said that a high-level party delegation visited the residence of young Suhail on Tuesday and expressed solidarity with his family for their inconsolable loss. The NC leaders said that this was a tragic and unacceptable incident and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
"The delegation conveyed the condolences of NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah to Suhail's family and said that such incidents were unacceptable and brought grief and sorrow to every single conscientious citizen of the State. Pertinently, the NC delegation was turned back from Narbal by the Police yesterday while they were on their way to visit Suhail's family," said the NC spokesman.
The spokesman said that the delegation was led by NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani. He said that senior NC Leaders like Ali Mohammad Dar, Aga Mohsin Mustafa and Manzoor Ahmed Wani were part of delegation.
