Delhi police had booked Asif Khan for harassing his junior; JK Govt gave him plum post | 3 months on, no action against KAS officer in sexual assault case | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 21: Three months after after Delhi police registered a case of sexual assault against Asif Hamid Khan, the former Additional Resident Commissioner at J&K House New Delhi, no action has been taken against him so far. Khan, a KAS officer, was booked by the Delhi police after a woman officer, also KAS, alleged that he had sexually assaulted her. He was booked under Sections 354, 354-A and 354-B. But instead of taking any action against Khan, the state government called him back from New Delhi and posted him as Managing Director, J&K Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited. Earlier, the woman officer had informed her superiors about the alleged harassment, but to no avail. Sources said the woman was not only harassed but pushed to the wall as she was divested of all powers. "She didn't surrender and continued to fight. It was only after she was compelled by her department which failed to give her justice that she registered a complaint before the police in Delhi," the sources said. Later, Khan was booked for "assault with intent to outrage her modesty, physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, a demand or request for sexual favours or making sexually coloured remarks." If proven guilty, Khan shall be punished with imprisonment for one year, or with fine, or with both. Meanwhile, Khan was virtually pulled out of the crises with his transfer order being issued. He was shifted from New Delhi to Srinagar. From Additional Resident Commissioner J&K House, Khan was accorded the plum post of Managing Director, J&K Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited. "With the case gathering dust at New Delhi, all eyes are at the present dispensation of the state. Whether the government would deliver justice to the victim or would delay it and hence deny it forever remains to be seen," the sources said. Interestingly, the deputy chief minister and BJP leader Dr Nirmal Singh was earlier approached over the issue by the relatives of the victim. He had expressed his anguish over the incident. "It is reprehensible that a KAS officer is being harassed by her own superior. There are clear guidelines issued by the apex court to deal with matters of this kind, and the Chief Secretary should act against the accused accordingly," Singh had then stated. |
